An Australian fisherman nearly scared himself to death when he pulled a 6-foot long prehistoric shark out of Victorian waters.
David Guillot, the skipper (or captain) of the fishing trawler, said, “The head on it was like something out of a horror movie. It was quite horrific looking … It was quite scary actually.”
This is like the movie Jaws on steroids.

A frilled shark gets its name from the six frilly gills that run along side its head/neck.
Here are some more creepy facts about this rare creature:
- Ancestors date back 80 million years ago
- Lives in water less than 1,200 meters deep
- Body of an eel
- Tail of a shark
- Reaches lengths of 2 meters
- 300 teeth in 25 rows
The shark was offered to Australia’s national science organization, but the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization declined because they already had a specimen of the species.
