Authorities in Vancouver, British Columbia are reporting an orca calf has passed away. The calf was found on a beach near Tofino on Vancouver Island’s Pacific coast.

It’s unclear if the calf was born this year or last year.
The death comes on the tail end of a baby boom for killer whales in the Pacific Northwest. Since December 2014, eight calves have been born to the J-Pod group of killer whales.
